Satan Never Looks Like Satan

From: The Catholic Education Resource Center.

God so loved the world that he spared us the indignity of making us feel good about ourselves. “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). If utopians indulge the dangerous sentimentality that thinks Satan is a mythic cipher to explain the problem of evil, Jesus does not. He knows the origin and character of Satan: “He was a murderer from the beginning. When he lies he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).

Satan hides behind the plural: he pretends to be more than he is, intimidating others by celebrity and popular support. “What do you have to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?” But in the presence of the Truth, even Satan cannot lie. He drops the plural and confesses what no mortal yet knew: “I know who you are — the Holy One of God!” (Mark 1:24). Our Creator knows more about the problem of evil than we do. Logically, if God did not exist, evil would not be a problem. It would be just an energy equivalent to good. In every age, those who have cooperated with Satan have solved the problem of evil to their satisfaction by saying that it is good. Many of these figures have had a seductive power over people that cannot be explained by simple human charm and persuasiveness.

Satan hates not being God. He is only a creature. His hatred refracts into a hatred of the Church, which is the only power against him in this world. He does not waste his time on false religions, heretics and braggarts. He hates the Sacrament of Reconciliation and tears down Confessionals because he wants to separate man from God. “Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries — of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature — to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history” (Catechism of the Catholic Church #395).

Satan never looks like Satan. He drapes himself in celebrity and humor and humanitarianism, using celebrity to mislead, humor to mock, and humanitarianism to de-humanize. One hatred in him always exposes him for what he is. Because our Lord said that we must become like little children to inherit the Kingdom of heaven, Satan hates babies. With great wisdom, the older Rite for the Baptism of a Child begins: “I exorcise you, unclean spirit, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Come forth, depart from this servant of God, for He commands you, accursed and damned spirit, He who walked upon the sea and extended His right hand to Peter as he was sinking.”

YOU ARE PART OF OUR AWAKENING. KEEP SPEAKING OUT. KEEP PRAYING. JESUS, OUR LORD AND SAVIOR, AND OUR HOLY SPIRIT, OUR DEAR FATHER GOD, THERE FOR US, THE TRINITY IN WHATEVER ASPECT WE DESIRE, THERE FOR US. WHO NEEDS THE DEVIL? HOW STUPID PEOPLE ARE TO BE FORMING GROUPS TO WORSHIP THAT NOTHING, THAT HATER. WE NEED TO SHOW MORE LOVE TO EVERYONE. JESUS LOVED THOSE WHO CRUCIFIED HIM, WHO BETRAYED HIM. WE NEED TO BE LIKE JESUS. THEN THERE WILL BE NO ROOM FOR ANYTHING ELSE. IN THE WILL OF GOD, ALWAYS.

I have been meditating on our Saviors’ words while on the cross, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they do”. Please Lord Jesus, hide me in your most Sacred wounds, safe from the enemy of my soul. Let me not fail in following you all the way to the cross this Lent. May I not fail in allowing you to mold my heart into a heart like yours; humble and courageous. Amen.

When I were a child i were in a car accident I were told by a neighbor i died and came back to life, I seen Mother Mary, and went thought the Tunnel of light, at the Gates a man spoke asking me to come in but I wanted to know if my mother would enter the same gate before i went in, Mother Mary came beside me again and told me “I will suffer a lot”, I said that was ok, then she told me “the man I would Marry will try to kill me” I said that was ok, Then She told me I will go completely the other way, I did not answer and thought I would go in the gate instead of that, as nothing could be as bad as that, Mother Mary said to me “I will help you” and I responded “If you help me everything will be ok” I was back in my body again. Only a miracle and a true Miracle can save you when you go completely the other way. you loose all identity, you can not identify with anything or any body, not even an animal. you have no love in you and the only thing you can identify with is pain or hurting yourself. A vision of my Doctor Paul McQuad was put before me and he kept saying to me what is your name repeatedly, i did not know my own Name, but I recognized him, then I realized I was hurting myself, so I stopped, and next I felt the love of a neighbor for me in my Heart, her name is Ann Murray, R.I.P. but she were alive then, I know she is a Saint because of this. I was on my knees crying and praying then. I know what it is like to be without God or Love. Mother Mary saved me, Thank God: Amen

  • I know the devil is very real because my sister was attacked by the devil. He knocked her to the floor and she could not get up. She was a suffering soul for her grandson who had died in a car accident. He had lived a sinful life and she offered her suffering for his salvation. She died after years of intense suffering and I know that Mary had put her under her mantle. May she rest in peace.

We need to pray for every single soul in our world with special emphasis for those that have been deceived beyond rational thinking by the master of confusion. Lost sheep are increasing by thousands daily as evidenced in rampant narcissism, materialism, immorality, and violence. It is also essential that we pray and fast for our priests who are under constant demonic attack since Satan knows that clouding the clarity of our shepherds and seducing them into watering down truths will destroy many souls that rely on them for guidance. Our priests must be strong and courageous to stand against the lures of Satan and they count on us to support them along the way, spiritually and otherwise. Check out “The Invisible Monastery” with Vianney Vocations and the “United in Prayer” efforts of The Newman Connection to view just two of many awesome resources that can help with forming & preserving strong priests while remembering the Divine Mercy and Holy Face Chaplets to help us defend the faith in today’s spiritual warfare. NEVER despair since that is Satan’s ultimate goal! “Pray, Hope and Don’t Worry”- St. Padre Pio

at last a Pope who acknowledges in plain words, the existence of Satan and his works; it is time for all Catholic clergy to do likewise

I have a question. Does the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass have the most powerful exorcism because Jesus is offering His Sacrificial Death and His Resurrection to the Father?

When we see Christ’s hatnuimy and what He suffered for us and just like us, it’s so humbling. I remember when I was going through a time when I was feeling very betrayed by someone I loved very much. I heard these words from the Lord in my heart “I was betrayed too, by someone I loved very much.” It was so comforting and healing to hear those words from my Savior! Blessings,~Erin

Truly well written article and it had enlightened me, a sinner who always fall into the trap of satan but through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, I’m refreshed in the Spirit with my sins forgiven and try one more time not to sin again. May God bless me.

I wear the brown and green scapulars also, I love Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus. Always pray with your heart, Amen

  • Thanks – last night Satan looked just like the beautiful women in the pornographic SuperBowl advertisements, for everything from Audis to Volkwagens to godaddy.com.

Please post something about the pornographic SuperBowl advertisements – surely glossing over a few of God’s commandments and truly exploiting football fans of all ages, at the cost of their innocence and souls.

    Thanks. Sheila P

I was on a comment thread with a woman, calling herself Catholic, who asserted that an unborn child is a parasite. She later said that we really do not need more people in the world. Even though I see it every day, it still shocked me that this mindset is out there! The diabolical makes itself clear for those who open their eyes. But my family is personally renewing our Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, praying our daily rosary, and daily living the joy and peace of Christ. Just wish the Devil would leave the rest of the world alone! Join me in prayers for the salvation of all!

  • Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, St. Joseph and Jesus’ Blessed Mother Mary who in the utmost Love recognize that which is unpure and the one who tempts us for Hate of us. Let us always find you, and love you, and never forget your Providence and Strength which bore our sinfulness. A Love beyond Measure. Thank You.

I am a 52 year old man with a Doctorate Degree in Chiropractic and now in my third year at Medical College working on my second Doctorate Degree in Medicine. In November, 1976, at the age of 17, I was taken out of my body and found myself in God. God is LOVE. Every day is a torment for me because I desire to go home to God. Two months later, in January, 1977, the devil entered my room while I prayed the Rosary. This experience happened to me two nights consecutively. I was attacked by hate, jealousy, anger, rage, murder, and every negative emotion one can imagine. This evil cannot be explained. It is not human; it is real. I would have died of fright had I not invoked the Holy Name of Jesus. I would be attacked for the next 25 years, physically and spiritually. The attacks stopped when my Pastor Anointed me with Holy Oil. I have worn my Brown Scapular for the last 7 years, never ever taking it off. I am safe in Mary’s arms. Peace!

thanks for the truth; so important to know about this; it is never mentioned in the Catholic church here in Ireland where Catholics are in denial about the existence of Satan and his myriads of demons

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus: Amen

Simple enough but very complex! One of the most important things I get out of the whole article is that satan hates the Sacrament of Reconciliation! Praise be Jesus Christ it makes me want to go tomorrow.
Thanks so much for this great reminder,
    Jeremy
