Mandela from a Christian Perspective . . .

Mandela’s Support of Abortion “Shameful”

(PROVIDENCE, R.I.)-The Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, today offered the following statement regarding the death of Nelson Mandela.

Nelson Mandela: Charitably give thanks for the good and plead Mercy for the bad.

“Many people around the world and in our own nation are mourning the loss of former South African President Nelson Mandela. Indeed there is much to admire in Mandela’s long life and public service, particularly his personal courage and his stalwart defense of human rights.

There is part of President Mandela’s legacy, however, that is not at all praiseworthy, namely his shameful promotion of abortion in South Africa. In 1996 Mandela promoted and signed into law the “Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Bill” that, according to the New York Times, “replaced one of the world’s toughest abortion laws with one of the most liberal.”

While we pray for the peaceful repose of President Mandela’s immortal soul and the forgiveness of his sins, we can only regret that his noble defense of human dignity did not include the youngest members of our human family, unborn children.”

What the Bishop failed to mention was that Mandela was a Communist!!! Thank you Bishop for your courageous letter to the newspaper, however, it would have been nice had he mentioned that this celebrated man was a communist! Who knows what he really did behind closed doors!

This bishop was courageous indeed. I can’t believe Cardinal Dolan and Pope Francis praised Mandela. They could have just said they would pray for his soul. It’s scandalous to praise someone who supported abortion, homosexual marriage, etc.

Certainly Mandela should be commended for equality for all blacks. However many people are calling Mandela a saint. Saints don’t promote abortion and same sex marriage.

Leaders have to be careful about their means in obtaining power and what laws they enact when they obtain it. His courageous message to raise the equality Black citizens in South Africa resonated with many around the world, but we are all judged on our whole life, all of our actions, and those who teach others are especially judged harsher. Should the good we do erase all of the bad that comes from our hands. I too pray for his soul.
