We Hate Children! We Hate Life!

Holy Innocents“Better Gun Laws.  Better Mental Healthcare…Give Me A Break!”

By Fr. John Hollowell

Some have asked for my thoughts on the tragedies of today, and so I share them for what they are worth.

It seems like a line was crossed today that, in our country at least, has never been crossed to date.  Columbine was horrendous and was a paradigm shift for the nation, but given our collective experiences as teenagers growing up, and given the fact that most everyone still carries scars from teenage hazing and bullying in some form or another, I think most people at least could fathom the source of the hatred, the evil, and the revenge that we saw in Columbine.  From Stephen King’s “Carrie” to Ralphie in “A Christmas Story”, we’ve grown up knowing that bullying does real harm and pushes people to the breaking point.

But a classroom of little children…it doesn’t register on any level, nor should it.

So now the carousel of blame starts spinning – people pointing at things external to fix…”better gun laws”, “better mental health care”, “better health insurance”…give me a break!  I could care less, one way or the other, on gun control, but anyone who thinks that these types of measures would have prevented today is really hoping to avoid the issue that really matters.

The dignity of the person.

In our culture, the dignity of the human person has been spat upon, mocked, and destroyed.  There is no “dignity of the human person” to speak of anymore.  Anytime someone stands up to speak about “the dignity of the human person” they are shouted down in the public square and mocked for using words from an archaic culture that we have, so we’re told, moved beyond and surpassed.

A human person today only has dignity if others will it to be so – a child grasping for breath on the abortionist’s table is granted dignity solely based on the wishes of the mother.  The abortionist, and our President, like the emperors in the Colosseum of Rome, wait for the thumb up or down of the mother to decide whether the child lives or dies.

Embryos sit in freezers across the country, parents have their reproductive systems mangled in order to have pleasure without the burden of children, wars are now fought, like video games, through the lenses of drones, we tell third world countries that “children are the problem” and so if you want any of our food to eat, you are going to have to stop having children…

Today, in Connecticut, a big fat mirror was held up to our nation, and a monster from the depths of Hell illustrated and showed us exactly what we don’t want to see in ourselves…we hate children, we hate life, and human dignity is on life support in this country.

The Joker in “The Dark Knight” utters a seriously frightening, and seriously prophetic line about us:

“Nobody panics when things go “according to plan.” Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell the press that, like, a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it’s all “part of the plan”. But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds!”

We’re accustomed to the plan of 4,000 abortions a day, it has become part of our character as a nation, and it has faded away into being simply “a part of the plan.”

The dignity of the children lost today did not come simply from the fact that their parents happened to want them!!  Their dignity came from the fact that God wanted them, and willed them into existence…that is the sole source of human dignity, and we are meant to marvel at the dignity of such miraculous creation, the miraculous nature of it all only amplified by the fact that all of us have been blessed with a role to play in nurturing and bringing into existence the miracles that are human persons!

We have been anti-life and anti-child and anti-human dignity for a long time in this country, and it is time to stand up and say ENOUGH!!!

We must rise up and demand a return to respect for the dignity of the human person!!!!  We must rise up and say that a child is not a choice, a child does not derive his/her dignity from the choice of another human person, a child does not derive his/her dignity based on whether they are born into poverty or not…we must rise up and say every human person has an unassailable dignity, and that dignity is given to each human person by God, with a capital G,…and if we refuse to do that, if we refuse to acknowledge how utterly evil and depraved this nation is becoming, and if we fail to acknowledge how putrid “the plan” has become that we call every day life in America, and we keep blaming guns and health care insurance, then we should never expect a return to sanity.

Please hit your knees for the families and the loved ones left behind in Connecticut and say a lot of prayers for our country.  Today, a new line was crossed; what remains to be seen is whether we will wake up because of it, or if we will continue to bury our heads in the sand and act like we don’t know what is going on.

All Holy Innocents, pray for us!

P.S. – Would you do Courageous Priest a favor and share this info with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or Email right now? We truly appreciate it. Or leave a comment, we would love to hear what you think.

You are right Brother. And it’s hard to ask God to Bless America when it Kills his Babies. My heart aches for all of them.

Yes Father you are right on. Every time I hear “God Bless America” I cringe and say how can we ask God to Bless this Country when they kill his Babies…My heart and Soul aches for those babies and all those who suffer at the hands of man. Thank-you Father.

The child shot were not innocent?

  • You are so right, Father, and we all need to help get this message out farther and wider. I’ve posted something about it at http://gnmforum.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-holy-innocents-of-newtown.html

Thank you Father, you have identified the problem. If its ok to murder in the womb, why not on the street? Our highest court has upheld violent video games. But what underlies the horror of abortion, child abuse and ABUSE of WOMEN? Please refer to Pope Paul VI’s 1968 prediction if CONTRACEPTION becomes the norm.
    Yours in Christ,
    David

I am sure the shooter at the school did not think once about abortion. He had a problem and the problem was not addressed. Not because of this or that. Mental health in our country is so out of tune. When the white man came to America and took the lands of the Native peoples and killed them there were no abortions so your point is not valid.

Of course the shooter did not THINK about abortion. I’m sure he wasn’t THINKING at all. His evil acts were the automatic reaction of a mind warped by being marinated in violent and evil imagery for thousands of hours on end, without anyone to effectively guide him in the Truth. The point is that in our society a real “culture of death” has come about where we have gradually gotten used to worse and worse things. Things that people would not have even spoken about when I was a child are now routinely seen not only on the news, but on prime-time “entertainment”. In generations past, things that would have warranted a call to the “Vice Squad” are now looked upon as “freedom”. Our society has a warped understanding of freedom. Our Founding Fathers never would have pledged their “Lives, Fortunes, and SACRED HONOR” so that we would have a right to pornography, fornication, sodomy and baby-killing!
You have a point about the brutality involved in taking away the land from the Native Americans. The source of the problem is the same. Original sin. People who refuse to see that the other people are created in the image of God. Jesus told us that whatever we do to the least of His brothers, we do to Him. Refusal to obey Jesus in this causes EVERY atrocity from slavery, to genocide, to abortion. We become spiritually blinded and see people as just THINGS.
What is different now is that the evil is celebrated, and widely communicated so that people become desensitized much more efficiently. It is a wonderful thing when you can disseminate the Truth efficiently. But the very dangerous flip-side of that is that lies and evil also spread like wildfire. It is a tragedy that the Nazis were horribly efficient. Without virtue to withstand the onslaught of the big lies, we cannot stop the spread of the evil deeds.
We must pray to become obedient to God.

Thank you, Father, You said it all in a nutshell, lets hope that we can get people to wake up to reality and make changes right now. My heart goes out to those people in Connecticut, God help them.

Thank you, Father. I’ve had similar thoughts over these past few days. You said it very succinctly.

    I have been putting
so much thought into this. Where are we going wrong in society? When we think of
the word hate we think of it as a strong word. When we think of the word love we think
of the difficulty of loving one another. Maybe its time we just start liking one another which
will lead us to loving one another.
Maybe its time that society emphasizes to one another how precious every life is. To take
a moment to tell others how important their life is to us and how much we care about them.
Making sure that every life counts and no one should ever be left out. Taking time to reach
out to a loner or someone who feels like an outcast. Never allowing someone to feel isolated
from the world. Assuring one another that their uniqueness is a valued and cherished.
Growing up I don’t remember any violence acts like this. Maybe we need to bring back Leave
it to Beaver households. A home where everyone has dinner together. Where parents know
everything about their children. Their likes and dislikes. Where parents know where their
children are and who they associate with. Where children are being brought up, not dragged up.
Parenting is a full time job. Many parent are lazy in this respect. We have to teach children how
precious life is. Parent need to be totally involved in their childrens lives. Maybe its time communities
bring back the curfew law. I see kids roaming the streets. Where are the parents? And I disagree
with (actor) Samuel L. Jackson when he says violent movies and video game don’t atrribute to this. That’s
nonsense. It plays a huge role in this evil behavior.

FAKE TEARS FROM THIS PRO-ABORTION PRESIDENT DO NOT MOVE US. STOP KILLING OUR INNOCENT UNBORN BABIES AND WE WILL BELIEVE YOU. UNTIL THEN WE BEG FOR THE MERCY OF GOD UPON US AND OUR FAMILIES. GOD WILL NOT BE MOCKED. 4,000 ABORTIONS A DAY. HOW LONG BEFORE THE BLOOD OF THESE HOLY INNOCENTS FALLS DOWN UPON US ? AND IT WILL.

  • Spot-on Fr. Hollowell. As a NFP teacher I understand the deafness of the majority of the clergy and the laity.

  • TG

Father, I totally agree with you. This is the best article I have read on this subject. I’m afraid our secular society will not learn from this tragedy. It’s going to take something supernatural.

  • Fr. Steve Gallagher

Thank you for this spot-on, hard hitting, needed article. Changing man-made laws will solve nothing until man starts obeying God-made laws, the Law of the Divine. We obsess over the symptoms and do not have the moral fortitude to go to the core, the cause of the sickness. I occasionally use the term “Catholic-up” in my homilies. My dear friends in Christ – Catholic-Up!

Attitudes are not going to change until we look at ourselves. The fingers are being pointed in many different directions, but not to each of our hearts. We must pray for the end of abortion whether the laws change or not. Our heart must see that all unborn children have a right to live just as much as those kids in the Sandy Hook School shooting.

  • LynnS

All I can say is, “Amen.” This is the truth. Thank you.
