There Is No Such Thing as Football Fans Who Hate Football

Fr. John Hollowell: “The Holy Father, during a recent Angelus address, said that if a Catholic doesn’t have the Faith anymore, it would be more honest to leave. (Courageous Priest posted it Here.)
This confirms for me something I taught my students the past few years at Ritter – the idea that I have more respect for people who have thought through the issues and leave the Church than I do for the people who disagree with the Church on every conceivable issue of importance, but don’t do the intellectually honest thing and leave.
I’ve said many times I’d much rather talk to an atheist than a cafeteria Catholic because while an atheist has taken false premises to their true conclusion, a cafeteria Catholic has taken true premises through to false conclusions while also lacking the courage to ACT on those false conclusions. Is there anything more illogical than that “catholics” who hate the Church? There is no such thing as Twinkie fans who hate Twinkies, no such thing as Buddhists who hate Buddhism, and no such thing as football fans who hate football.
I’m glad to see the Pope confirm something I’ve felt for a long time – if people don’t like the Church, they should do the intellectually honest thing and leave.”

Thank you Father John Hollowell!
I truly like a Priest who speaks the truth bodly and plainly espically during the culture of death in which we now live
If you truly do believe in what the Church teaches there is not other place you can go
Sadly I run across people everyday that are in some way gong against the
teachings of the church. Some are leaving because of the direction the church
is taking. In my ministry I teach that when you rebel against the church and the
teachings you are in essence rebeling against God. I pray people will put God
first despite the many things we disagree with. Because at the end of the day
its about God and our salvation.
God bless.

Remember what our Lord said “When I return will I find any Faithful?”
Amen to this! It has been obvious for years….if you do not agree with the Church….get out! If you stay but publicly talk down the rules…..or act in a contrary way to the Faith…..it must be for a very sinister reason like taking people away from God.
There is a huge price to pay when someone actually causes someone to commit sin by leading them away from right paths.
More priests and bishops should be outspoken on this issue.

Most certainly if one does not agree with the Church’s teachings should leave. In fact they have, as Judas did. So admitting they are not Catholic would be the truth, but then they are liars as was Judas .

If “lapsed” Catholics were a separate religion, they would be the second largest denomination in the United Sates. There is something wrong with the church that loses that many people. Check out this link (If John can muster the intellectual honesty to post it.) regarding Cardinal Martini of Milan. It makes interesting reading:http://ncronline.org/blogs/ncr-today/translated-final-interview-martini
Thank you so much Father for your outstanding homily. Yes, i agree with you and the Holy Father, if you do not agree with the teachings of the Catholic Church, then leave.
Pax Christi,
Theresa
AMEN. (I think there are some Catholics like the liberal so call nuns that stay to undermine the church from within and others stay because they were raised that way but don’t have a clue about what being Catholic means.)
John,
Are you going to publish my posting?
The truth can be painful.

Hello Bill,
It is good to have you back! I must say, once again, that I cannot agree with you any more than the comment you just shared.
The Truth can be painful. It is like a two edged sword, it cuts both ways whether you follow the Truth or not.
Bill, your point about something being “wrong with the church that loses that many people,” is a great observation. Have you ever meditated on this Scripture passage?
Acts 2:
[44] And all who believed were together and had all things in common;
[45] and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need.
[46] And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts,
[47] praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Makes me wonder if the problem is the Church, the spotless bride of Christ, or those are bound to obey her? What are your thoughts Bill?
God bless and your continued prayers are greatly appreciated.

The late Cardinal Martini:
How do you see the
situation of the church?
The church is tired, in the Europe of well-being and in America. Our culture has become old, our churches and our religious houses are big and empty, the bureaucratic apparatus of the church grows, our rites and our dress are pompous. Do these things, however, express what we are today? … Well-being weighs on us. We find ourselves like the rich young man who went away sad when Jesus called him to be his disciple. I know that we can’t let everything go easily. At least, however, we can seek people who are free and closest to their neighbor, like Archbishop Romero and the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador. Where are the heroes among us who can inspire us? By no means do we have to limit them by the boundaries of the institution.
Dear friends at CP:
This is something I have preached to my people repeatedly. If you have anything contrary to say to what ever I preach in union with the Magisterium then you the only choice is that you leave. Stop trying to change the Church from within and just go find yourself what you want since there are over 45,000 flavors of self made “church” out there. The logical conclusion is that you leave. The only on that is indispensable is Jesus Christ!
Fr. Luis
Many segments of the Catholic Church, are quite Catholic, but not very Christian, the treatment, of gays, the treatment of divorced Catholics and many others. The swing to the radical right by the Church as made the institutional church more important than the people of God. This trend will probably continue as long as the current Pope is in office and probably long after. We will continue inferior men appointed as Bishops and the crop of new priests are, for most part, sub-par.
______________
Honestly Bill? This is what you truly believe?
Bill, here is a letter St. Paul wrote to the Romans. Please read it. How does St. Paul handle the treatment of gays? Is St. Paul being very Christian?
Bill, when do we as Christians reveal to practicing homosexuals that their lifestyle is exchanging the truth about God for a lie?
Gay people are not treated in a Christian way.
_____________
Hello Bill,
Can you tell me how? Is homosexual acts ok? Is St. Paul being unChristian saying, “Though they know God’s decree that those who do such things (homosexual acts) deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them.”
Looking for clarification.
God bless you Bill
I have to give my opinion about homosexuality. For over 40 years I
was afflicted with homosexual behavior. I no longer consider myself gay.
I know its possible to reverse this behavior. However It takes a closeness
to God and prayer. I’m an advocate that homosexuals can attain this
achievement by staying close to the church. And that homosexuals must
be treated with love and respect. A homosexual cannot attain this by
allowing the church to place a wedge between God and the homosexual.
But let me say this. Homosexuals should never be allowed to receive
communion when they are practicing homosexuals. And the gay agenda must
be omitted from entering the church. Here in Los Angeles practicing gays
are going to communion without a moral conscience. They are also being
allowed to bring the gay rainbow flag in the church to use as an altar cover.
When homosexuals continue to forced their sexuality on the faithful it is
sinful. They can receive communion to ease their conscience, but God is
not being fooled. In my ministry, my sole concern is for the salvation of souls.
However they will never gain this until they separate themselves from this
behavior. I know this sounds harsh, but I pray other homosexuals will find
the peace and joy I have found in my spiritual life and relationship with God.
Salvation can only come when we stop trying to justify sin and recognize it
with true contrition.
