Archbishop Terrence Prendergast Refuses Abortion
Supporter To Speak At Catholic Event
Ottawa, April 2011 — After consultation, Archbishop Terrence Prendergast has cancelled presentations by a representative of the Miguel Pro Centre for Human Rights scheduled for Saturday, April 2 at the Diocesan Centre and at parishes this weekend.

Archbishop Terrence Prendergast
The Archbishop met with Father Luis Arriaga, director of the Miguel Pro Centre for Human Rights (PRODH) on his arrival in Ottawa and discussed with him, and with representatives of Development and Peace, the Centre’s support of groups espousing abortion.
Since the Centre’s support of groups in favour of abortion rights in Mexico is incompatible with the Church’s defence of the right to life from conception to natural death and the mission of Development and Peace, and in order to remove any doubt about this commitment, the speaking engagements of Fr. Arriaga have been cancelled.
The Archdiocese of Ottawa continues to be engaged in clarifying with Mexican Church officials the status of the Pro Centre for the Defence of Human Rights in light of its support for groups espousing abortion.
Archbishop Prendergast wishes to ensure that nothing be permitted to diminish the cause of life in the Archdiocese of Ottawa or through its outreach activities and charitable work. He is gratified to learn of the concern many have expressed for the cause of life. He wishes all to know that his own commitment to the cause of life remains undiminished. Again this year, Archbishop Prendergast will be in the forefront of the prolife activities on May 12th, including the morning Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral and the March for Life in the afternoon.
The Archbishop asks that all in the archdiocese join him in praying, through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, that the cause of life be upheld with integrity and that the goal of Development and Peace in favour of the poor of the world be in the forefront of our Lenten almsgiving and remain a key aspect of our path toward renewal at Easter.

I am all for helping the poor. I am not, however, interested at all in giving one red cent to Development & Peace. They have time and again shown they are not to be trusted. The facts of this are easily verified on-line with a quick search.
I, for one, donate my funds to Chalice, which is an absolutely awesome organization!
May the Lord bless the good Archbishop for his faithful service to the Church.
Good for him! We need more Bishops who are more concerned with protecting life than with winning a popularity contest by not upsetting the liberals.
God bless

God bless Archbishop Prendergast for standing tall on Pro-life. When our bishops and priests and even the Sisters are not in line with our holy father the Pope and they go against what the Catholic Church teaches the people in the pews get very confused.
When elected officials who are very public about their views on Prochoice are able to receive Holy Communion at their parish this also sends a very confusing message. We Catholics should be setting the standard for the whole world. We Catholics are Pro-Life loud and clear including all the clergy who have such a great influence. Our bishops especially the American bishops must make this clear to all the parish priests.
