Are We Cowards and Weak in Faith?

We Have Allowed the World to Continue to Crucify Him

By Fr. Daniel E. Doctor: At the center of the Solemnity of Christ the King of the Universe is a paradox – that this Lord and King, Jesus Christ – never held any political office. He didn’t have an advanced academic degree and never had any kind of a cultural influence when He was alive on this earth. He rode a donkey to His coronation, He was crowned with thorns, clothed in purple and mocked as a King by His own people, and even spit upon for His royal salutation. At His death, He had no money, no home, and no possessions – this King was without an earthly Kingdom – cursed, defiled, ridiculed – who died at the age of 33 on a terrible instrument of torture -hung on a cross to die alone. And yet, our very concept – our entire hope of salvation – our entire faith which the Church proclaims and we profess every Sunday in the Nicene Creed – is born right here in this paradox. That our King, our Lord of Love, was brutally tortured and suffered the most cruel death “for us men and our salvation.”

Solemnity of Christ the King

It is You Who Declares Christ the King of Your World

Make no mistake about it – without His suffering and death on the tree of the cross – there is no Christianity, there is no Catholic Church or Her sacraments, and there is no deliverance for us from sin and death.  When we take a deep look at the example this King gives us from the Cross – we can see what an adult, mature, authentic follower of Christ is – and that is one who gives and not takes. It is one who is not selfish, one who does not grasp at things or try to take possession of them.  One who surrenders all of His control for the sake of the other.  One who takes up his cross and then dies on it.

This, then – becomes the standard by which we too will be judged at the end of our lives – Have we fed the hungry? Have we given the thirsty something to drink? Have we welcomed the stranger? Clothed the naked? Cared for the sick and the dying? Visited the imprisoned? Have we loved others as He loves them, which is His greatest command to us? Have we acted in a way worthy of His Kingdom? Have we given of our lives so as to be worthy of this great King of Love? Have we died to self to be able to live for Christ? For Christ told us – “whatever you did for one of the least of my brothers, you did it to me.” Whatever we do, good or evil, to others – we do this to Christ Himself.  We continually crucify Him over and over again in the lives of our brothers and sisters because we are so selfish, so uncaring of those around us, so hateful to those we have been chosen to love.

Our Catholic faith and Christ’s example – is meant to teach us to be of service to one another – this is the core of our religious freedoms – the freedom to live a life of virtue and avoid vice; “to be the best version of ourselves,” to be like the saints, whose virtues helped to build up not only the Church, but civil society as well. We live our Christian life, our virtuous life, our Catholic Faith when we follow the example of this great King on the cross – when He gives everything, holding nothing back – for the salvation of the whole universe. For He said, “when I am lifted up, I will draw all men to myself.” And why does He draw us to Himself? So, that we can be like Him, so that we can have union with Him, so that we will never be separated from Him again.

Christ on the Cross, crowned with thorns, unrecognizable in His suffering, is the image of the Kingdom of the Father – because He lives – even dies for others. Christ the King on the cross is also the truest image of any and all forms of religious freedom. For Christ freely acted on our behalf and for our salvation. He freely gave of Himself to the Father as a sin offering for our redemption.

But what do we see when we look upon the crucified one? What do we see with our eyes of faith? Not someone who saved Himself, but someone who forgets Himself in the Sea of God’s infinite love. Not someone who builds up His own ego – but someone who gives it away for the sake of others. Not someone who fills Himself up with worldly things or with a sense of inflated pride – but someone who completely empties Himself out in all humility, in the greatest act of self-donating love. Someone who said on the night before His death, “this is my body, which will be given up for you!!”

St. Pope Pius X stated at the beatification of St. Joan of Arc in 1908; “In our time more than ever before, the chief strength of the wicked, lies in the cowardice and weakness of good men. All the strength of Satan’s reign is due to the easy going weakness of Catholics.” Because of our laziness, our selfishness, our weakness – because of our fear of failure, or not wanting to be the outcast of the world; our friends and family. Our complete unwillingness to suffer with Christ for others – our refusal to carry our cross after Him – we have become the outcast of Heaven – the scourge of the earth.

Because we our cowards and weak in our faith, we have allowed the world to continue to crucify Him and so the Holy Father continued, ”What are those wounds in the midst of your hands, [O crucified King of the Nations]?” [And He answers;] “With these I was wounded in the house of them that loved Me. I was wounded by my friends, who did nothing to defend me, and who on every occasion, made themselves the accomplices of my adversaries.”  This reproach of our Lord’s, through the words of His Vicar, St. Pius X, can be placed at the feet of every weak, cowardly, and timid Catholic in our country.

For if these words to be true – 104 years ago – on the beatification of one of the greatest martyrs in our Church’s History – How much more are they true today for us – who are Catholics – and who have once again abandoned our King and His Church in their hour of greatest need? “Behold the Heart [of our King] that has so loved the world and has received so little in return.”

Will Self-Proclaimed Catholics Realize Their Scandal?

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are holding to your faith.
Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you?
Unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” 2 Corinthians 13:5

by Fr. Daniel E. Doctor, Michigan:  Wow, the elections are over – at least for a few years. I am not sure about you, but I know I am glad to be rid of all the advertisements, the TV commercials, the constant interruption at dinner time about who we should vote for and why. I am glad that we are done with all of the bulletin inserts, booklets, and flyers – trying to cram a year’s worth of religious education about the Catholic Church’s position on Life, Liberty, and traditional marriage all within 2 months.

Being human, and therefore tempted by the Evil One just like the rest of us, I sometimes think it would be so much easier for me to just be silent and go with the flow of our modern culture. To become a modernist or a liberal and talk about happy things – about salvation without effort – how we are all saved – and God is going to let all of us into heaven without any real effort. To water down our Catholic faith -or at least not to stand for it – or to make it easy for us, by going with everything and defending nothing. To say everything is allowed – go and drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.

Eat, Drink and Be Merry ... for Tomorrow We Die

Are We Scandalous Catholics?
Eat, Drink and Be Merry … for Tomorrow We Die!

The culture and the devil make it sound so good to let go of our moral conscience, to go through life without any religious values and to be uncaring of those around us.

It would be great to teach and preach that whatever makes us feel good is OK and being able to have everyone happy and joyful as they leave after Mass – because whatever lifestyle we pick, whatever sin we choose, is just fine with the Church because we are all free. To be like the rest of the nation where 20% are atheists and where over 30% have a cold-hearted belief in God. To be like the 70% of self-proclaimed Catholics who never go to Mass on Sunday or any other day of the week, who can vote and act any way they want – no matter how scandalous and still remain Catholic. Or like the 80% of so called Catholics who have not been to the sacrament of confession in more than a year.

Our political leaders make it sound so liberating; to go through life getting all the free stuff the government can provide – acting like I am entitled to it and it is my right to have it. Not really caring who I take it from – or hurt by my selfishness – or how out of control my appetites are – letting others do for me what I could do for myself.

It must be great to live without morals, …

or a faith belief, where I can indulge in every selfish appetite and vice and be praised for it and even get legal rights to protect my immoral selfish behavior. To be able to live in a way that leaves nothing but a wake of destruction in my path because I have the right to do whatever I want.

It must be a good time – or at least it is made to seem so – to be part of a nation where there are billions of dollars wasted on things like pornography, adultery, fornication, and sodomy. To just “have a good time” without ever feeling guilty or responsible for my actions. To be able to do whatever I want; whenever I want without feeling bad about it.

The Devil makes us believe …

that it must be a great time, being a slave to our emotions and appetites – always happy; always fulfilled. To believe that hell is the best place to have real fun – heaven sounds boring – a place where we can come to this – that we could all just get along…but there is also another part of me – that is called to holiness in both my words and actions – a holy part of me – deep inside me – that realizes that God is doing something in the midst of all this craziness – something in the hearts of His faithful priests and bishops who are loyal to the Holy Father and Holy Mother Church as well as many faithful Catholics – and I know it because I can feel it every time I come before our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration – that we are on the verge of something that will be the most wonderful thing in the history of the Catholic Church in America – something that has never been seen in the history of the Church.

Jesus tells us plainly in the Gospel; “Do not think that I have come to bring peace. I have come not to bring peace but rather the sword.” He brings the sword because the sword makes people snap out of the mediocrity of the mainstream liberal Bishops and priests have left us drowning in for over 50 years. He brings this sword so that we can repent and change and move forward as faithful Catholics. For it is better for us to save our souls than to gain the whole world.

The Church militant needs warriors –

faithful Catholics willing to fight for what our Church stands for and be willing to shed our blood for what it stands against. We don’t need a American Catholic hierarchy, who, knows how to sit and dine with the “Anti-Christs” that surround us. In the near future, no one will want to care about priests and bishops that are “elegant” and “politically correct.” The people of God need bishops and priests who know how to fight evil when they encounter it, not sit it down and have a nice talk with it.

This is what we see in the History of the Church if we choose to study it – when things get tough – and they sure are going to get tough now, if you are willing to remain a good faithful Catholic – then the people of God will turn to strong warrior priests and other strong Catholics – so soon they will be turning to us – and we need to be ready to stand with Christ and His Holy Mother come what may – even if that means the shedding of our blood for the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church and all She teaches.

So I say it again – “Give me Liberty – or – Give me death.” For I do not wish to live in this world – if I am not free!

Being A Hypocrite Places One’s Soul in Grave Danger

Voting Against Your Moral Conscience And The Teachings Of The Church Endangers Your Eternal Salvation!

“You Already Aborted Her”

Fr. Daniel E. Doctor M. Div, M.A. , Michigan:  Mother Teresa of Calcutta in the 1980’s was contacted by Harvard University because they wanted her to give a commencement speech. She refused. The University contacted her again explaining to her that they would be willing to not only pay for her trip from India to the United States, but would also be willing to donate 1 million dollars to her favorite charity. She decided to take them up on their offer.

During the commencement, when it came time for her to deliver her speech; she approached the microphone and said, “Love God, Love Neighbor” – she then sat down to which the whole place erupted in applause and all those present took to their feet – this ovation last more than 3 minutes.

After she had spoken at Harvard, she was boarding a plane back to India, a woman reporter approached her with the question, “Mother Teresa, do you think there will ever be woman president in the United States?” Mother Teresa responded immediately and without missing a beat, “NO,” she said, “you already aborted her.” Very sober and strong words from a future saint about our American way of life.

St. Charles Borromeo-Defender Of The Faith

Today we also celebrate another saint who did not mix words – who is our Church’s patron – St. Charles Borromeo. Twice St. Charles was shot at by those who opposed him and the teachings of the Church – he so vigorously promoted and defended.  St. Charles was a man of the people, even when he was working in Rome, helping two popes to promulgate the teachings and degrees of the Council of Trent -because St. Charles was the “Defender of the Faith” during the Counter Reformation -he desired to be in no other place but back in his Diocese of Milan, Italy.  Now the reason why St. Charles wanted to be home in his own diocese may not be clear to all of us – but he saw it this way – too many in the Church were sowing error and confusion and some had began accusing priests, and the lay faithful of terrible untrue things. These actions by the newly formed protestant groups as well as by some Catholics were killing the faith in Milan and in some cases destroying it before it ever got a chance to be formed in individual Catholics.  St. Charles wanted to be on the ground, in the local churches, with his people, and on several occasions approached the Holy Father pleading with him to let him go back home. When the Pope finally gave he permission to go back home, he found a church in confusion and disarray.

The first thing he did was to make visits to the churches in his diocese to make sure that they were practicing the true Catholic Faith – most of the time he was met with anger and resentment from the local clergy. Not satisfy in what he found he started to reform and reeducate the clergy as well as reorganizing the administration of the Diocese. When visiting these churches he found the laity not educated in the teachings of their Catholic faith, so he started the first CCD programs and what we would call Adult Faith Formation, to get his people up to speed so they could defend themselves
from the protestant invasion.  St. Charles realized that none of this would take shape unless the people and the clergy had a deeper, more personal relationship with their Lord, so St. Charles was the first to have 40 hours devotion – he not only started this at the cathedral but ordered all the churches of his diocese to do the same. The pope was so impressed that he ordered this 40 hour devotion to be promulgated throughout the Catholic world.

When we look at the wonderful example of their teaching, the courageous fortitude in the face of danger, and their devotion to Christ in Holy Eucharist – always promoting Eucharistic Adoration – that is found in St. Charles Borromeo and Blessed Mother Teresa – it is no wonder that they had such a dramatic effect on those who encountered them. They wanted nothing else then to bring others to love Christ and His Church.

Become Modern Day Saints

As most of you know – because I have been preaching on this for over a month now – we are entering into one of the most critical times in the history of the Catholics Church and as American Catholic voters. We should not be afraid, or fear failure, because this has continued to happen all throughout our Church’s history and our future does not look much different.

So what do we do? – Well, we take these saints at their word. We need to stop aborting our future, we need to become unconditionally pro-life, we need to start praying and adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament – because if there is going to be a change in our world then it has to start with us. We can’t wait for someone else, or some other saint to lead the way – we have to do that now – we can no longer wait for other Catholics, or the clergy to get with the Catholic Church and Her teachings about life and religious liberty – because they may not, or by the time they do wake up it will be to late.  We, the faithful, the remnant of Jesus Christ, need to become the saints of the present time and that means we are not going to be popular.

“Catholic Voters Have A Serious Obligation To Uphold Moral Law”

Cardinal Raymond Burke, an American, and a Vatican official stated that we as “Catholic voters have a serious obligation to uphold the moral law” which means“Catholic voters must defend life and traditional marriage.” He continued, one “can never vote for someone who favors the right of choice of a woman to destroy a human life in her womb or the right to a procured abortion” as well as to attempt to redefine marriage. Bishop David Ricken, Bishop of Green Bay, WI even goes further and says; to vote for someone in favor of these positions “could put our own souls in jeopardy.”  This is very serious stuff that can lead to very serious sin. We are living in very difficult times to be a moral person or a good Catholic  but the fact remains if we fail to follow our Catholic faith in the way we vote we are endangering our souls. Why?  Because when you stand here in Church you make your profession of faith – you say that you believe what the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church teaches to act differently, or to vote differently is to be a hypocrite and much worse a heretic.

St. Thomas More explained it this way – when you make such a profession you hold in your hands your own soul, like water pour into your hands, now say you act or vote in a hypocritical way – voting against your moral conscience and the teachings of the Catholic Church – you are opening your fingers and the water in your hands flows onto the floor – the only way to take back the immoral action is to able to collect all the water, that is your soul.

Christ Continually Condemns Hypocrites

Christ numerous times throughout the bible condemns those who act hypocritically.  We, as modern day Catholics, will be treated no differently by our Lord and Judge. Even though it is extremely hard to follow what we profess as Catholics, we cannot act or vote in a way that is contrary to the scriptures or our profession of faith. If we do then we should already know that our future salvation is gone without sacramental confession and a life time of prayer and penance.

This last Thursday we celebrated the Solemnity of all the Saints, let us call upon them to help us, as individual Catholics, as individual American voters – to do the right thing, to do the moral thing, and vote as well as act like the Saints would – promoting and defending life, religious liberty, and the true happiness of every person conceived into our great nation.  And let us remember the battle cry of our American forefathers;  “Give us Liberty or give us death!!”

Liberal Priests & Theologians Have Lied To Us . . .

In Their Attempts to Justify the Killing of the Innocent.

Father Daniel E. Doctor

Fr. Daniel E. Doctor

Fr. Daniel E. Doctor M. Div, M.A. , Michigan:  No other Pope wrote more on the issue of Life than Blessed Pope John Paul II. In his encyclical, “The Gospel of Life,” which he dedicated to the whole subject of Life, outlined for us that “human life – all human life is a gift from God and therefore sacred” which means all human life is good and has been given the opportunity to become holy.

Because Life is the “supreme gift of marriage” and a holy gift from God – there are things which can attack this precious gift and seek to destroy it – to which we, as those having life and a rational mind, must defend and protect. This is not matter of a religious belief, but as a rational human being, with a mind, and a conscience, we can simply understand how killing the innocent is immoral, unethical and should be illegal in any civilized society.

These direct attacks against life, things like; procured abortion, euthanasia, the willful killing of the poor, embryonic stem cell research, and any and all forms of birth control, as well as any other action that confuses the Truth about the very Sanctity of Life, according to BJPII, is “an absolutely unacceptable and a morally evil act.” This is the philosophical error of so many in our nation and our Church – and is the basis of the culture of death we find ourselves living in – we believe and therefore acted as if everything is moral, everything is acceptable.

Whatever is opposed to life . . .

at any stage of development must be opposed by Catholics, such things like; murder, genocide, and suicide.

The Church clearly teaches that whatever violates the integrity of the human person such as mutilation and torture; whatever insults the human dignity such as subhuman living conditions, arbitrary imprisonment, slavery, prostitution, human trafficking, as well as disgraceful working conditions – where people are treated as things rather than as free and responsible persons – all these things and others like them must be condemned by us in our thoughts, words, and action, most especially in the way we vote as American Catholics.

They Have Lied To Us

As St. Augustine, “the sole purpose of Life is to gain merit for everlasting Life – for a man not to live as God created him is to live a lie.” Our culture, our politicians, our water down liberal Priests and Theologians of the last 50 years have lied to us in their attempts to justify the killing of the innocent.

They have promised us a better life – a healthier life at the price of our own children. They called their actions moral and liberating to women because some of us may benefit from what is clearly the exploitation of our own human children.

We can see both in the culture, the society, and even on a political level a tendency to interpret this attack on life as a legitimate expression of individual freedom. The problem with this is the tendency to grossly distort what we call civil rights by violating the basis God-given right of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness of every conceived American citizen!

To Attack Life is to Attack God

God is the one who has given us these rights, not the Constitution, or Congress or any man, or even nature – but we get these rights from God – and to attack life at any stage of development is to attack God Himself as the Creator – and then to call this a right or a freedom – is the most absurd of lies.

The right to Life is questioned or flat out denied on the basis of a majority vote; or the so called rights of a women to choose to kill her own child; this is the direct result of a culture of relativism when there is no consequence for bad behavior. These beliefs that we can do whatever we want without any negative consequence is what fuels every revolt against God.

This so-called freedom, is NOT real freedom because it is no longer firmly founded on the dignity of each and every human person – but is made subject to the will of the strong over the weak, namely the mother’s rights and choices over the right’s of her own child to life, liberty, and happiness as a human being.

We Become a Form of Totalitarian Socialist Government

In this way, we contradict our own democratic principles and become a form of totalitarian socialist government where only the strong, or the powerful, or the rich have God-given rights – everyone else is at their mercy.

St. Francis deSales warned us: “we in this life are walking on ice.” and the truth is – the ice is broken and we are drowning in our own desires, passions, selfishness and sin – we are suffocating in our own evil.

By living as if God does not exist, we have lost sight of the mystery of who God is and therefore, we, have lost any understanding of the mystery of what life is and what it means to be truly human.

People are no longer considered for what they are – namely a precious gift of God’s created beauty – but for what they “have, do, or produce” – can’t we see this is the supremacy of the strong over the weak.

This general acceptance of this fact, that the strong are better or superior to those who are poor and weak reigns in the popular mind – to the point – that it is now even reflected in our new HHS health care law – this should be a telling sign for us how far down the road to destruction we have slipped as a nation – because after living in a culture of relativism and death for so long – most of us can no longer distinguish good from evil or discern a evil inclination from a good one.

The deliberate decision to deprive an innocent person – life –

or to treat others without respecting their dignity to religious liberty is always a moral evil. In fact, it is a grave act (therefore a mortal sin) to deny any person their basic rights guarantee by our Creator.

At the very heart of this evil, is the denial of the fundamental Christian virtues of justice and charity.

Blessed Pope John Paul II said authoritatively; “nothing and no one can in any way permit the killing of an innocent human being, whether a fetus or an embryo, an infant or an adult, an old person or one suffering from an incurable disease, or a person who is dying.

Furthermore, no one is permitted to ask for this act of killing, either for himself or another person entrusted to their care, nor can any authority recommend or permit such an action” without committing a grave and serious moral evil.

The Holy Father continues; “the human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception; and therefore from the same moment their rights as a person must be recognized, among which is the right to Life.” More and more, we find ourselves in the midst of a conflict with evil forces that cannot be rationalized with because they truly do not understand our Catholic position, which the Holy Father explained in this way; “we have the inescapable responsibility to be unconditionally pro-life.”

In the proclamation of the Gospel, in this New Evangelization that 2 Popes have called for, we, Catholics, are required to teach the values that Christ Himself promoted. We must not fear being unpopular or even fear hostility and persecution when it comes – even when it comes from within our own Catholic Church – we must not fear failure either – we know we are working out our own salvation and we must refuse any compromise or any ambiguity with the forces of evil which might try to conform us to the world or its way of thinking.

“We must be in the world but not of the world” – remembering always to draw strength from Christ, who by His Cross and Resurrection has overcome the world and ransomed many – but not all – as the Gospel today reminds us.

Here is What We Must Do

Therefore, it is urgently necessary for the future of our country and the development of a sound democracy to rediscover those essential and innate human and moral principals which flow from the very truth of who we are as human person. We need to once again like the American Catholics of old – to get down on our knees and pray the Rosary – asking Mary, the Mother of God to guide us in this dark hour. And we must remember that these core values that we have as Americans – no individual, no majority, no president or government agency can ever create, modify, or delete but must only acknowledge, respect, and protect these rights.

Christians, like all people of good will, are not to cooperate in any practices, even if permitted by civil law, which is contrary to God’s law. Each individual in fact has a moral responsibility to inform their own individual moral conscience to what is evil and how to fight against it.

The very purpose of the Gospel we profess is to transform humanity from within and to make it ever new. Like yeast which leavens the whole dough, or a light that enlightens the whole room, the Gospel is meant to permeate all cultures and give them life from within, so that they may express the full truth about the human person and the sacredness of Life.

America is No Longer a Christian Culture

This American culture of today has lost this Christian leaven, has lost the light of Christ, and is no longer a Christian culture, so it is our duty, as Catholics to once again be that leaven, that light which changes the world.

As G. K Chesterton so wisely observed, “a dead thing can go with the stream – but only a living thing can go against it.” So go against this culture because you are the ones who are truly free and alive with the power of your Savior, Jesus Christ.
