Cardinal Burke: The Teaching on Communion Cannot Change

Catholic Herald:

Cardinal Raymond Burke has given a new interview, in which he says that the Church’s teaching against Communion for the remarried cannot change.

In an interview with Raymond Arroyo of Eternal World Television Network, Cardinal Burke was asked to comment on John Paul’s document Familiaris Consortio, which states: “Reconciliation in the sacrament of Penance which would open the way to the Eucharist, can only be granted to those who, repenting of having broken the sign of the Covenant and of fidelity to Christ, are sincerely ready to undertake a way of life that is no longer in contradiction to the indissolubility of marriage.

“This means, in practice, that when, for serious reasons, such as for example the children’s upbringing, a man and a woman cannot satisfy the obligation to separate, they ‘take on themselves the duty to live in complete continence, that is, by abstinence from the acts proper to married couples.’”

He added that the Church’s teaching on Communion for the remarried does not admit of any exceptions. “No matter what the complexities of the situation may be, the party in question, the member of the faithful in question, will either rectify the irregular moral situation in which he finds himself, and thereby be able to receive the sacraments, or until he is able to rectify the situation, will not present himself to receive the sacraments.

I’m a convert to Catholicism from Muslim religion. I was converted during the consecration of the mass, on the eve of the feast of Our Lady of Fatima on the 12 th of May, It was awesome. I wonder does pope Francis believe in the true present of the Lord Jesus in the holy Eucharist ?. Thank God for Cardinal Burke for leading us on the right path. He is definitely my hero. I remember reading the story about an apparition of Our Lady to children in Spain,in Europe, one of the messages given to them was” Many Cardinals, Bishops, and Priests are on the way to perdition with them they bring many many souls. Please please pray for them very much, especially for the bishop of Rome, and the cardinals who support him.

Thank you Cardinal Burke. You make us better Catholics by standing up for the truth. May God bless you with the strength to keep on doing the right thing and we will pray for those clergy who are weak.

    God bless

The Cardinal Burke article appears to be in its tenth day of publication. Let’s face it people, in the grand scheme of things this isn’t a terribly important issue.

One, unconfessed, obstinately retained mortal sin is enough to keep a soul from being in a state of grace. If a person is not in a state of grace, upon physical death, then that soul is not in union with God. That soul , upon judgement, will condemn itself to the eternal flame. When we choose “our way”, “our thoughts” then we say “no” to God. We choose to not serve. I’d submit that, in the “scheme of things”, the only thing mattering is gaining, through God’s grace, salvation, making this an extremely important issue.
      God love you.

It is obvious that you take your faith lightly much like Pope Francis. God bless Raymond Cardinal Burke and the other Cardinals who are standing up for the teachings of Christ and the doctrine of the Catholic faith. They are doing their job of saving souls….It is a very important issue!

I’m betting the rule will be changed. It will go the way of requiring women to have their heads covered Church.

Thank God we have HOLY MEN like Cardinal Burke and other three Cardinals!
Let us pray constantly for them and for an increase in their vocations!

God bless Cardinal Burke and the other three Cardinals. I offered my mass for them,
but I wish the other Cardinals and Bishops would grow a spine. At least the Catholic
faithful now know how many and who stands up for Christ and his church.

Many of us do not partake in social networks. Please make Disquis available for comment. Thank you. Social Networks are dangerous.

Kudos to Raymond Cardinal Burke and the other three Cardinals and the rest of the Cardinals, Bishops who agree with them. The confusion lies in the Vatican. God help us!
