Bishops And Priests Who Fail To Preach On Hell Will Probably End Up There!

frzIf You Don’t Believe In Hell, You Are At Serious Risk Of Ending Up There!

Father John Zuhlsdorf – Before anything else, let it be said that, “God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1 Cor 10:13)

Now…

The greatest accomplishment of the Enemy of our souls is to deceive people that the Enemy doesn’t exist … that there is no Hell … that people can’t go to Hell … that no one is in Hell, blah blah blah.

Let’s be clear about this.  Catholics are obliged to believe in the existence of the Devil and of Hell.  These are de fide doctrines taught by the Church without the possibility of error.

The Devil exists.  Fallen angels hate you with a malice no human can imagine.  They have an intellect that surpasses our mere human faculties in a way that we can’t fathom.   They never tire.  They are relentless.  They are real.  If you don’t believe in the existence of malicious fallen angels, you are in serious risk of joining them in Hell.  This is no joke.

Hell is real.   In Hell, the damned suffer the pain of sense and the pain of loss (hint: unending pain is a key feature of your eternity in Hell). We can choose to separate ourselves from God and go to Hell by sinning, by resisting grace, by failing to repent, by failing to do what we ought, by presuming that we are automatically saved.  If, when you die – and you will die – you are not in the state of grace, if, when you die – and it is going to happen to you – you are not living the friendship of God, you will go to Hell.  Once you are there, that’s it.  There is no hope of ever changing your lot.  There is no changing your mind.  There is no possibility of leaving even after a million billion years.

If you don’t believe in Hell, you will probably wind up there. And if you chose that fate, it would be better for you had you never been born (cf Matthew 26:24).

STOP.  Spend a moment to examine your conscience.

NOW.  Try to imagine what goes through the mind of the damned soul during his first 30 seconds in Hell.

I remind you of these harsh realities because I don’t want to go to Hell.

Priests and bishops who don’t teach about Hell will probably wind up there.

It is my job to keep as many of you as possible out of Hell.

I will therefore tell you about Hell and then echo St. Augustine, who told his flock “Nolo salvus esse sine vobis! … I don’t want to be saved without you!” (s. 17.2)

We must be clear about the Four Last Things: Death, Judgment, Heaven, Hell.  Sure, we must also talk about heaven and goodness and joy and kitties and sunshine and birthday cakes.  Let’s get this Hell and Devil thing straightened out because it’s been neglected for far too long.

We must also work to revive the Sacrament of Penance, which was instituted by Christ as the ordinary way our sins would be forgiven.

Going to confession, making a sincere confession of all your mortal sins in kind and number, can keep you out of Hell.  Got that?

GO TO CONFESSION.

What a victory for the demons of Hell it has been to run down the Sacrament of Penance until it is barely thought of in some parishes.

Fathers, if you are parish priests and have the obligation to hear confessions, hearing confessions can help to keep you out of Hell.  If you are parish priests and you don’t hear confessions or you won’t teach about confession, you will probably go to Hell.  Just try to deny it.  Just.  Try.

Thank you…thank you….thank you for being a courageous priest. Catholics are so ignorant of their faith due to the Catechism being removed from Catholic Schools and the CCD program. Several generations of Catholics since Vatican II and its misunderstood variations, have been deprived of the roots and foundation of their faith. If I talk to Catholic adults today, they do not go to Confession, nor do they believe in hell, nor do they know what is a sin….They believe that God is so merciful that He will forgive them of everything sinful that they ever did and that all will go to heaven when they die. They certainly don’t believe in Purgatory either. It is more important today than ever, since we are living in the end times, that the Catholic faith is explained clearly and the Sacraments emphasized. I pray that the clergy will remove all fear from their vocabulary and with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, will move forward and preach the Word of God and the Doctrine of our Faith as if there is no tomorrow. If anyone objects and they will, consider this to be an opportunity to save a soul by gently instructing the complainer about the sin of complaining/condemnation/gossip, etc. Our goal is to help Jesus save souls. God bless our priests and may the Holy Spirit empower them to become HOLY PRIESTS.

I firmly believe that as a mother and grandmother, I need to do what most of our pastors fail to do and that is to preach the truth about eternity. Salvation is our goal and Jesus died on the Cross for that reason. Father Z. did us a great service by this article and I was much relieved to see that someone is brave enough to talk about the reality of sin and hell. I pray every night for my children. They may not like that I have posted Fr. Z’s article on facebook but I have done that because I love them so much. Maybe it will encourage them to go to confession, repent and put the Lord first in their lives. Thank You Fr.Zuhlsdorf!

non of my pastors in Wisconsin ever preach about hell or confession. When I wAS IN iNDIANA , BACK IN 1980, ONE PRIEST DID. THAT WAS THE LAST TIME, EXCEPT for Fr.
    Corapi.

It seems Andy and Bill have gone off the bend with a liberal mindset.
Almost as though they think they know more than God.
The religious men featured on Courageous priest
are men who speak the truth and do so for the sole
purpose and commitment for the salvation of souls.
The truth can sometimes be painful and difficult to
accept. As a religious myself I firmly believe that
we must teach the truth with love and compassion so
that it never puts a wedge between God and the soul.
No one knows how much I would love to ease
someones conscience by telling them what they want
to hear. However as I have said many times, what a
terrible disservice would be doing to your soul.

    Andy,
You are not the Authority of the Church and you need to read your bible.
Open to other theories? are you kidding? I think Judas was open to other theories and was also a scholar too and look where he landed?
Catholicism is the ONE TRUE Faith period….. take it or leave it but don’t try and change something that has been around for over 2000 years. There are like 40,000 different faiths out there pick one and stop picking on our Faith and trying to change it to fit it to what you want it to be.

  • Andy

Educated people should be open to other theories. That is why the poster is in the classroom.

My question is; Will people of other faiths go to Hell because their faith doesn’t use reconciliation?

God knows your sins that should be enough.

If anyone doubts the existence of hell or the devil I recommend watch the movie of Padre Pio ( Miracle Man)

    Well said Diane. Here here!

In my post, my intention was to try and get a pointer from one of these courageous priests as to how I can ask my good priest why the concept of Atonement seems to be changed to Reconciliation in the things he is saying lately. It is confusing me.
Maybe there is an explanation out there.

God bless the courageous priests and Bishops. They are like the fresh new buds of spring. I see so much hope for the church through their loyalty to the Truth. A new springtime a new Evangelisation. Praised be Jesus and Mary.

I agree a gazillion% with Father Z. There is a hell and satan and his fallen angels who follow him to destroy the souls of GOD’s children, all of them no matter the age. satan doesn’t care, he just wants to win and by going to Confession frequently he isn’t winning, you are… you are winning eternal life with GOD. You are receiving the graces needed to enter into the Kingdom with our Lord God.

To me all of what has happening has everything to do with evolution. When they let evolution into the schools they opened the door to hell. If we believe in the possibility of evolution and we evolved from a monkey we do not need “Redemption” because there is no “Sin” Original Sin,then the Bible can be to them just a nice book of stories instead of the Inspired Word of GOD. So then the Bible becomes fiction and not something to live by and to gain eternal life from, because it is not real. Do you see where I am going here. They took prayer and God out of schools and when they did they took it out of most homes too.

The Catholic schools aren’t much better because they leave the door open. In St. X High School there is a monkey on the wall that evolves into a man, ask yourself why is it there? Did satan know what he needed to win? Yes sadly he is winning many souls and many of them are Catholic and you read above why.
We need to speak boldly and speak frankly, there isn’t time for misinterpretation. We need to be a bunch of John the Baptists, Joan of Arc’s and St. Catherine’s of Sienna.

    Ask yourself these questions?
    1. When did sin and death happen, before or after the fall?
    2. If sin happened before the fall, why would GOD say that each day that he had made, He saw what he had made and it was “Good” and on the Last Day He said it was Very Good? GOD would have NEVER said that death and sin were good, EVER!

We need to re-visit this place of lies, and fix the problem. We have to stand up for the truth which is GOD’s Holy Word the Bible. We need to fight this evil lie and fight it with the “TRUTH” which is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ IS the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE.

Thank you Father Z and to all priests who stand in the Truth, and thank you all for being priests and bringing our Lord to us daily.

“The best parent and guardian of liberty amongst men is “Truth”
    ~Pope Leo XIII, Vicar of Christ(Immortale Dei 40, November 1, 1885)
“Nothing emboldens the wicked so greatly as the lack of courage on the part of the good.”
~ Pope Leo XIII (Sapientae Christianae, No. 14, encyclical, 1890)
Once you learn the “Truth” you can never unlearn “It”
*Sorry about wring a book but I felt it needed to be said.

I wonder how ordinary people are supposed to make any difference to what priests choose to believe, preach and practice.

At the end of the day, IF hell did not exist, there would never have been a need for Redemption.

I am very disturbed and maybe without cause by hearing our good priest talk about ‘celebrating the sacrament of reconciliation’ when he is talking about CELEBRATING Holy Mass. I thought he was supposed to be OFFERING the Sacrifice not celebrating it.

I always thought Mass is THE Sacrifice of Atonement. That is Calvary renewed in an unbloody manner at each Holy Mass to atone for our sins.

Why do they keep talking about the meal, the banquet. This is spiritual talk, and most people don’t even understand the need at human level for receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation which I call Confession.

It is as if they are trying to humanise the Sacred Mysteries, when these will always and only be Spiritual.

Someone has got to do something. And stop all this protestantization of the sacred traditions of the Catholic Church. Help me here please.

  • TG

Good job as usual, Father Z. I think all priests should be required to read “The Dialogue” by St. Catherine of Sienna. God tells her what he will do to priests who do not do what they are supposed to. Father Z is so right about Confession. Even for veniel sins, it’s good. You strive to do better and are more aware of your faults especially how you treat others. We should all pray for the conversion of poor sinners and for the grace of perseverence.

  • Related: some say “Hell exists but it is possible that all are saved.”

Highly improbable and very misleading IMHO, but technically not absolutely impossible. FWIW, I discuss this in my piece from about 2 years ago: Is Hell empty?
