Bishop Thomas Paprocki Defends Cathedral from Rainbow Sash Event

“Affiliates with the Rainbow Sash Movement
will Not be Admitted into the Cathedral”

Statement of Most Rev. Thomas John Paprocki, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, Regarding Planned Rainbow Sash Event at Cathedral

The Rainbow Sash Movement has encouraged Roman Catholics to come to Springfield to “have a loud Catholic presence for marriage equality.” They have announced plans to gather at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 4:30 p.m. just before the 5:15 p.m. Mass to stand in the Cathedral and indicate that they are there to pray the rosary for “marriage equality.”

It is blasphemy to show disrespect or irreverence to God or to something holy. Since Jesus clearly taught that marriage as created by God is a sacred institution between a man and a woman (see Matthew 19:4-6 and Mark 10:6-9), praying for same-sex marriage should be seen as blasphemous and as such will not be permitted in the cathedral.

People wearing a rainbow sash or who otherwise identify themselves as affiliated with the Rainbow Sash Movement will not be admitted into the cathedral and anyone who gets up to pray for same-sex marriage in the cathedral will be asked to leave.

Of course, our cathedral and parish churches are always open to everyone who wishes to repent their sins and ask for God’s forgiveness.

Most Reverend Thomas John Paprocki
Bishop of Springfield in Illinois

Marriage can’t be redefined by humans because it wasn’t instituted by humans.

God bless Bishop Paprocki for doing this and also stating it so well!

I will really be impressed by the courageous priest/bishop who stands up for the
common good of all, speak up for a closed/secure border(without being blackmailed
by the Chambers of Commerce by insisting that it can only be done if they get the
whole immigration package…depressing American family wages even further);and who can
articulate with compassion how this shows the most compassion to all parties involved. If only this had been done (closed border)before these children were
lured here by lying Coyotes who bring them in and frequently abandon whole families
    in our AZ desert.
This is a prudential issue that we should be able to respectfully disagree on and still
be considered faithful Catholics, but we only seem to be hearing one side from our bishops. God bless Patrick Madrid for articulating the prudential nature of this
illegal immigration issue on EWTN radio recently.

Thank you Bishop for standing up for Catholic Church teachings. It seems like a small group of people are trying to silence people who believe in life, traditional marriage and the practice of our church teachings. Religious leaders like you give me the courage to walk the walk in this very confused society.
    God bless

We praise our Holy God for courageous men like Bishop Paprocki and beg Him for more. We will win this battle, and this war, maybe only on Judgment Day, but if that is what He disposes, that´s fine with us.
Come to us, Holy Ghost, take us over, control us, act through us. Without You we are nothing. Come to us, stay with us always, bring Your Holy Archangels, help us to do what we cannot do by ourselves, poor weak but repentant and sorrowful sinners.

We pray for our holy bishops, priests, religious, and lay people every day for their purity, zeal, orthodoxy, health, endurance, courage, conviction.

Thank you, Bishop Paprocki for honoring the Triune God whom we serve and adore by standing up for the truth and not bowing to the apostasy known as “political correctness.” Peace and prayers.

God bless you Bishop Paprocki. It is way past time that the Catholic Bishops in America actually act like Catholics and stop pretending. If I am not mistaken Scandal is still a sin. Thank you for being Catholic.

Bishop Paprocki displayed real courage on Nov. 15th with his condemnation of the Rainbow Sash Event at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. When will people wake up and heed the warnings that God is giving us. Wasn’t it ironic that those devastating tornados ripped thru the state of Il just a few days later? Our Lord is chastising mankind for the grave sin of same sex marriage. How could our culture stoop so low? God have mercy on this evil world!
