Bishop Daniel Jenky: The Current Administration Is Going The Way Of Hitler And Stalin!

Now Is The Time For Heroic Catholicism!

A Homily By Bishop Daniel Jenky:  (Edited for Length)

To read his entire homily visit here:  The Catholic

It Is Not Easy To Be A Christian

There is only one basic reason why Christianity exists and that is the fact that Jesus Christ truly rose from the grave. Meeting the Risen Lord had changed everything about these first disciples, and knowing the Risen Lord should also change everything about us.

You know, it has never been easy to be a Christian and it’s not supposed to be easy! The world, the flesh, and the devil will always love their own, and will always hate us. As Jesus once predicted, they hated me, they will certainly hate you.

But our Faith, when it is fully lived, is a fighting faith and a fearless faith. Grounded in the power of the resurrection, there is nothing in this world, and nothing in hell, that can ultimately defeat God’s one, true, holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

The Church Has Survived Many Attacks By Her Enemies

For 2,000 years the enemies of Christ have certainly tried their best. But think about it. The Church survived and even flourished during centuries of terrible persecution, during the days of the Roman Empire.

The Church survived barbarian invasions. The Church survived wave after wave of Jihads. The Church survived the age of revolution. The Church survived Nazism and Communism.

And in the power of the resurrection, the Church will survive the hatred of Hollywood, the malice of the media, and the mendacious wickedness of the abortion industry.

The Church will survive the entrenched corruption and sheer incompetence of our Illinois state government, and even the calculated disdain of the President of the United States, his appointed bureaucrats in HHS, and of the current majority of the federal Senate.

May God have mercy on the souls of those politicians who pretend to be Catholic in church, but in their public lives, rather like Judas Iscariot, betray Jesus Christ by how they vote and how they willingly cooperate with intrinsic evil.

As Christians we must love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, but as Christians we must also stand up for what we believe and always be ready to fight for the Faith. The days in which we live now require heroic Catholicism, not casual Catholicism. We can no longer be Catholics by accident, but instead be Catholics by conviction.

In our own families, in our parishes, where we live and where we work – like that very first apostolic generation – we must be bold witnesses to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We must be a fearless army of Catholic men, ready to give everything we have for the Lord, who gave everything for our salvation.

Remember that in past history other governments have tried to force Christians to huddle and hide only within the confines of their churches like the first disciples locked up in the Upper Room.

In the late 19th century, Bismarck waged his “Kulturkampf,” a Culture War, against the Roman Catholic Church, closing down every Catholic school and hospital, convent and monastery in Imperial Germany.

Clemenceau, nicknamed “the priest eater,” tried the same thing in France in the first decade of the 20th Century.

Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services, and health care.

This Administration Is Going The Way Of  Hitler And Stalin

In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama – with his radical, pro abortion and extreme secularist agenda, now seems intent on following a similar path.

Now things have come to such a pass in America that this is a battle that we could lose, but before the awesome judgement seat of Almighty God this is not a war where any believing Catholic may remain neutral.

This fall, every practicing Catholic must vote, and must vote their Catholic consciences, or by the following fall our Catholic schools, our Catholic hospitals, our Catholic Newman Centers, all our public ministries — only excepting our church buildings – could easily be shut down. Because no Catholic institution, under any circumstance, can ever cooperate with the instrinsic evil of killing innocent human life in the womb.

No Catholic ministry – and yes, Mr. President, for Catholics our schools and hospitals are ministries – can remain faithful to the Lordship of the Risen Christ and to his glorious Gospel of Life if they are forced to pay for abortions.

Now remember what was the life-changing experience that utterly transformed those fearful and quaking disciples into fearless, heroic apostles. They encountered the Risen Christ. They reverenced his sacred wounds. They ate and drank with him.

We Have Nothing To Fear

We have nothing to fear, but we have a world to win for him. We have nothing to fear, for we have an eternal destiny in heaven. We have nothing to fear, though the earth may quake, kingdoms may rise and fall, demons may rage, but St. Michael the Archangel, and all the hosts of heaven, fight on our behalf.

No matter what happens in this passing moment, at the end of time and history, our God is God and Jesus is Lord, forever and ever.

Christus vincit! Christus regnat! Christus imperat!

Christ wins! Christ reigns! Christ commands!

I seam too remember the Catholic Church including pope Benedict supporting the affordable care act aka ” Obama care ” sorry but you made your bed now lie in it. I know it’s a difficult lesson to learn. Maybe next time the Catholic Church won’t support a government takeover.

Bravo, Bishop Jenky! Great article long coming from Bishops, but then, you must be a traditional Catholic Bishop and not a liberal Bishop. Thank God for Bishops like you!
I totally agree with your entire article and have long been a soldier for Jesus through Mary in the Catholic Church. We live in end times and it is our Catholic duty to help lead souls to Christ or else they may perish for eternity. Christ has said that His people will perish due to lack of knowledge…..So, we have a monumental task ahead….Will you help Jesus or will you turn head?

    Dear Bishop Jenkys,
You are a true brother in Christ and I thank you for being faithful to the churches teachings. I ask you to pray seriously for the diocese of El Paso which is without a Bishop and going astray. Pleae pray that The Lord would send us a strong leader who will teach us all the truth. We need a bishop like you.

As a lay brother I have always been against religious being involved in political
matters. However we have reach a critical time in not only the future of our
country, but the future of religious freedoms. We must vote Obama out of

right on bishop Jenky, thank you thank you for this wonderful article, if we do not stand up for our Catholic faith we will lose it. God Bless You Bishop. Be not afraid. JESUS I TRUST IN YOU.

  • Not vote just their conscience, but their ‘Catholic’ conscience, he says! LOVE IT!!!

  • Steve Schumerth

Bishop Jenky reminds me a lot of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Martin Niemoller in Germany during the 1930’s and he may end up the same. The University of Notre Dame board and the academic community there should take an honest look at history. May our God of love, mercy and grace open their eyes before it it too late. I recommend to them the book, “Hitler’s Cross” by Erwin Lutzer. I do not mean to condemn anyone, but many have said, if we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.

Thanks for publishing this. Bishop Jenky is historically accurate. His statements may sound off wall, but it looks like this can and will happen. Let the IRS Blast him. We can use the publicity. He is not endorsing a candidate he is just stating the facts. Priests for life have been sued many times and they always win because they are on a Catholic topic and not endorsing candidates. Thank you bishop Jenky.

Right on Bishop Jenky! St. Michael the Archangel defend us in battle!!!

  • Cheralyn Quevedo

Thank you! What a great Holmily. May God bless you.

  • Courageous? Yes, loving Shepherd is a better description.

Our faithful Priests and Bishops have guided our Holy Catholic Church for two thousand years, and as our Lord Jesus said, the gates of hell will not prevail.

I totally agree and thank you Bishop Daniel Jenky for speaking what is totally the truth. Makes me sick those who made a complaint to the IRS. Separation of Church and State was never ment that the Church officials could not speak out against these type of attacks on our Religious Liberties and freedom. As Catholics I agree we need to speak out the truth & not hide from the truth. By my faith & formation of my faith and prayer, I already know I would not and will not vote for anyone who is for supports abortion, contraception and what the obamacare mandate promotes. As a faithful Catholic I too stand inline with Our Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI and Bishop Jenky and all our faithful courageous Catholic Bishops who are speaking out the truth. I will too have to face Jesus someday when He will ask me “What did you do for the least of my little ones” Obama and his like are bullies like Hitler and Stalin. I hope America wakes up from it’s dreamworld before it’s too late like what happened in Germany etc. Too many died because thieir heads were in the sand hiding from the truth. God Have Mercy on Amercia!

  • Thank You Bishop Daniel Jenky for speaking out and helping to save our country from a culture of death.
Building a civilization of love is not easy. We need the Church as Satan is active in the world. We must confront the culture of death boldly – with charity and Truth.

    BRAVO Bishop Jenky

  • TG

I agree with the bishops’ comments. I thought only those faithful to the church go on this website. If people don’t agree with the Catholic Church, then become a protestant.

  • Pat K

I am not Catholic, but I wholeheartedly agree with Bishop Jenky on this issue. There is a war on religion in progress in this country right now and I find it very disturbing. Do not apologize, Bishop Jenky. You spoke the truth. Regarding the threat of losing 501c3 status as mentioned in Pat’s comments, would that threat also apply to political preachings from Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan or would they be exempt? Perhaps Rev. Barry Lynn would like to file a complaint against them too, or would that conflict with his political agenda?

  • Bill

Jane and Pat, nice to see some fresh ideas.

Now to our beloved Bishops, one fundamental problem is that most of these gentlemen have very little experience working in parishes with real live people who have real life problems. A look at their biographies shows that often they were sent off to Rome for their seminary training and upon their return they were ordained and sometimes spent as little as two years working in parishes. Then, many of them were tapped for work in the Chancery Office whereupon they got their membership card in the “old boys network” of the church and eventually became bishops. What I believe should happen is that a requirement to become a Bishop should be at least 10 years in parish work full time (None of this working in the Chancery all day and simply living in a parish.).

  • Michael Janocik

Kudos to the good Bishop. However, I am growing ever more concerned that the debate is being framed as an attack on Catholic Institutions rather than an attack on the religious convictions of ALL CATHOLICS. THe local Catholic hardware store owner, too, will be forced to close his business if he refused to comply. This is not about carving out an excemption for Catholic “institutions.” Rather it is about defending Catholics from this assault on our religious convictions and consciences. I shouldn’t have to work for the diocese to be violated.

  • Pat

I was raised Catholic, I attended a Jesuit college. I know the difference between religion and power, and the line between religion and politics. Some high ranking clergy in the Catholic Church overstep these lines all the time; Bishop Daniel is just another in a long line. That he brings up the Nazis is hypocritical – a Pope and several other high level Catholic clergy supported the real Nazis in many countries – oh, we’re not supposed to remember that?
The all male dominated Catholic clergy believes it has a right to control women’s reproductive systems. Good little Catholics are born and predictably starve to death in the Philippines and anywhere else the church can and does force them. More souls perish for lack of food than lack of Catholic “knowledge” (indoctrination).
Save souls, leave the bodies to make their own decisions. And leave the politics to politicians.
So, if you preach politics and tell people how to vote from the pulpit, we must assume you are no longer religious but rather political and are willing to loose your 501c3 status. Paying taxes like other organizations would help all of us more than your attempts to force people to vote your political agenda.
Why do you assume that we are too stupid to think for ourselves?
Courageous? – no, domineering is a better description.

  • John Testa

God Love You, Bishop Jenky. We need all of our Bishops to stand up before it’s too late! Let’s also pray for Father Pavone to be free who by (coincidence?) is being persecuted because he is so effective during a presidential campaign. Don’t ever give up!!! There is too much too lose.

  • Enrique J Canton

We need more Bishops and priests like Bishop Jenky.
In all the parishes and all the churches, before the November Presidential Election, and for weeks before, all the priests and Bishops should remind the Caholic laity HOW to vote and they don’t have to say for WHOM to vote. President Obama’s latest Presidential Mandate, the HHS, has broken the Camel’s back. It is a direct attack on Religious Freedom, and we Catholics must be called to action. We must show up and vote this November against Obama. I can say it, because I am an American, and not a Religious figure. DO NOT BE AFRAID!

  • Jane Yavis

I am troubled how some Bishops with the encoragement of a laity driven by personal politics has simply taken all moral authority of a chrch that has survived so much away. Between Bill Donohue of the Catholic Leagues fascination with sexual perversion and biahops more concerned with politics than their flock,,,,,our church cannot last.

  • Lorelyn Dumaug

From us here in the Philippines, we are facing similar war, Bishop Daniel.

Your words are words of conviction of a Catholic Bishop and as lay Catholic, we are willing to take similar convictions and belief trusting that Our Lord Jesus will be with us.

We pray for you, we will storm heavens. Our God is with us and Mary, Our Lady Mary Mediatrix of All Grace, will aid us for this cause.

Complaint filed with IRS over homily by Peoria bishop

    By Manya A. Brachear

    Tribune reporter

    3:50 PM CDT, April 19, 2012

A prominent advocate for the separation of church and state filed a formal complaint with the Internal Revenue Service Thursday, accusing the Roman Catholic Diocese of Peoria of violating federal law by intervening in a political campaign.

The Rev. Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, alleges that a fiery homily by Peoria Bishop Daniel Jenky last Sunday effectively urged Catholics to vote against Obama in the 2012 presidential election.

Jenky’s homily criticized policies proposed by the Obama administration that would require all employers, including religious groups, to provide free birth control coverage in their health care plans. The bishop included Obama’s policies in a litany of government challenges the Catholic Church has overcome in previous centuries, including actions by Hitler and Stalin.

“Hitler and Stalin, at their better moments, would just barely tolerate some churches remaining open, but would not tolerate any competition with the state in education, social services and health care,” Jenky said. “In clear violation of our First Amendment rights, Barack Obama — with his radical, pro-abortion and extreme secularist agenda — now seems intent on following a similar path.”

Lynn has said church-affiliated agencies who operate on taxpayer dollars should follow public policy guidelines or only collect money from parishioners. But remarks delivered later in the homily prompted Lynn’s complaint to the IRS.

“This fall, every practicing Catholic must vote, and must vote their Catholic consciences, or by the following fall our Catholic schools, our Catholic hospitals, our Catholic Newman Centers, all our public ministries — only excepting our church buildings – could easily be shut down,” Jenky said.

In a letter to the IRS, Lynn wrote that Jenky violated the rules that prohibit issue advocacy and that he had called on Catholics to vote as a bloc at the polls.

“To be sure, Jenky never utters the words ‘Do not vote for Obama,’ ” Lynn wrote. “But the Internal Revenue Code makes it clear that statements need not be this explicit to run afoul of the law.”

On Wednesday, Lonnie Nasatir, the regional director of Chicago’s Anti-Defamation League, demanded an apology from Jenky, calling his remarks “outrageous, offensive and completely over the top.”

A spokeswoman for the diocese said the comments were taken out of context and misunderstood.

“Based upon the current government’s threatened infringement upon the Church’s religious exercise of its ministry, Bishop Jenky offered historical context and comparisons as a means to prevent a repetition of historical attacks upon the Catholic Church and other religions,” said Patricia Gibson, chancellor of the Peoria Diocese.

“Bishop Jenky gave several examples of times in history in which religious groups were persecuted because of what they believed,” Gibson said. “We certainly have not reached the same level of persecution. However, history teaches us to be cautious once we start down the path of limiting religious liberty
