Daily Prayer for Priests

O my Jesus, I beg You on behalf of the whole Church ... give us holy priests. You yourself maintain them in holiness.

O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil's traps and snares, which are continually being set for the souls of priests.

May the power of Your Mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priest, for You can do all things. - St. Faustina (Diary, 1052)

Archbishop Myers Slams Seton Hall’s Proposed “Same-Sex Marriage” Class

Openly Gay Faculty States The Course
Would Be Taught From an “Academic Perspective”

Jeff Gares CourageousPriest.com - Archbishop John J. Myers of Newark, NJ slams Seton Hall University’s newly proposed class on “same-sex marriage.”  Archbishop Myers and the board of trustees is demanding that the Seton Hall officials take whatever steps are necessary in order to protect the catholic identity of the university.  Seton Hall University’s newspaper, the Sentonian is reporting that an active homosexual faculty at the school, W. King Mott desires to offer the class on “same-sex marriage” from an “academic” point of view.  It should be noted that Mott has been demoted by the university once for speaking out against church teaching.  ( I would ask the question why this openly gay, catholic dissenting, homosexual is allowed to teach at the university in the first place?  But that’s besides the point).

The following is a statement issued by Archbishop Myers in response to the proposed class.  The following excerpt was taken from LifeSiteNews.com (with editing)

“As the shepherd of the Archdiocese of Newark, I am responsible for maintaining the Catholic identity of all Church institutions and organizations within the Archdiocese, and for ensuring authentic and orthodox Catholic teaching in all educational institutions and parishes,” said the archbishop.

“That responsibility extends to our Catholic elementary and high schools, to our parish religious education programs for both adults and children, and to the Catholic colleges and university operating within my jurisdiction.

“Recent news that a course on same-sex marriage is proposed for the fall schedule at Seton Hall University troubles me greatly.”

Myers also stated that the Catholic Church teaches “that marriage is a union of man and woman, reflecting the complementarity of the sexes.”  “That teaching precedes any societal connotation of marriage, and is based on natural law,” he stated.

“This proposed course seeks to promote as legitimate a train of thought that is contrary to what the Church teaches. As a result, the course is not in synch with Catholic teaching.”

Archbishop Myers has also stated that there is an on going investigation “to investigate the matter of this proposed course, and to take whatever action is required under the law to protect the Catholicity of this university.”

Archbishop Myers reiterated Pope B16′s address to Catholic educators in the U.S. when the Pope stated  “Teachers and administrators, whether in universities or schools, have the duty and privilege to ensure that students receive instruction in Catholic doctrine and practice. This requires that public witness to the way of Christ, as found in the Gospel and upheld by the Church’s Magisterium, shapes all aspects of an institution’s life, both inside and outside the classroom.”

Let us pray for this brave Archbishop and the Board of Trustees at Seton Hall University so that this openly dissentful class never comes to fruitition.  Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy on Us.  Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for Us.

I would like to thank the Archbishop for clearly voicing the church position on this issue as it pertains to the university. Our Catholic colleges and universities have become too secular. I attended Mass in the Boston area where a priest/professor from Boston College conducted a weekend Mass and spent his complete homely downgrading the position of our Holy Father. In effect, he said that the Pope is only the bishop of Rome and that he has no athority over anyone outside of Rome. When receiving Holy Communion, my wife told him that he was offensive and that he must apologize to the people. He made a comment from the altar that he was “SORRY IF HE OFFENDED anyone”.

I strongly believe that the leaders of the Church (all Christian Churches) must get together and take better control of religious education in this and perhaps other countries. They should move toward a combination of home schooling using the internet with brick and mortar facilities for workshops and testing. This would make christian education affordable for everyone, irrespective of one’s Faith, economic or ethnic class.

This must be done as soon as possible. The federal government is intending to make the internet a public utility. Once that do that, you can be sure that congress will push legislation that will make religious education illegal. Their grounds will be separation of church and state.

    Sincerely, Tom Green
